Special Event Permit Application

Overview

Pursuant to the Special Events By-law, a Special Event Permit is required for exhibitions, concerts, festivals, or other organized public amusements held for profit or otherwise, where the daily attendance exceeds 500 people, or for events with fewer than 500 people if the event could:

  • strain the Township’s emergency services;
  • have a foreseeable impact on the regular flow of traffic;
  • adversely affect the Selwyn Township community; or
  • present an elevated risk to the health and safety of participants or the public.

Please ensure that you have attached all required documents, permits, and approvals before submitting your application. Application fees are non-refundable.

Terms and Conditions

  1. Applications for a Special Event Permit must be submitted to the Manager of Community & Corporate Services/Clerk, 1310 Centre Line, Selwyn, ON (physical location); P.O. Box 270, Bridgenorth ON K0L 1H0 (mailing address); K9J 6X5, (705) 292-9507 (phone), with all required documents, permits, fees, deposits, and approvals no less than:
    • sixty (60) calendar days before the proposed event if the anticipated attendance is less than 1,000 people per day;
    • ninety (90) calendar days before the proposed event if the anticipated attendance is 1,000 to 5,000 people per day; or
    • one hundred and twenty (120) days prior to the proposed event if the anticipated attendance is more than 5,000 people per day.
  2. Applicants must be at least 18 years old or an authorized representative of a corporation to apply.
  3. It is the Applicant’s sole responsibility to obtain and pay for all information, documentation, and approvals required for the application.

  5. At a minimum, every Special Event Permit Application shall include:
    • a Certificate of Insurance naming “The Corporation of the Township of Selwyn” as additional insured
    • a signed agreement executed by the Applicant covenanting to indemnify and save harmless the Corporation of the Township of Selwyn and its officials, agents and employees from all costs, expenses, damages, claims and actions, caused by or resulting from the event or as a result of issuing a Special Event Permit to the Applicant for the event;
    • a description of the event or activities
    • a description or schedule of fees to be charged and the details of what such fees include
    • a Site Plan
    • Proof of all required licences or permits
    • Where the Applicant is not the owner of the property on which the Special Event is to be held, written confirmation that the owner consents to the Special Event
  6. Every Applicant shall comply with every by-law, provincial or federal statute applicable to the Special Event. A Special Event Permit shall not be issued for an event that will contravene the provisions of the zoning by-law that applies to the property, any applicable by-law, or provincial or federal statute.
