Application for Fence Variance

Before starting this application, please make sure you have the following information in a digital format, ready to upload:

1. The completed application form signed by the owner(s) or authorized agent and witnessed by a Commissioner for taking affidavits and all required supporting material, e.g. sketch, drawing.

2. A sketch to scale (include graphic scale), one (1) full size copy and one (1) reduced copy (11 x 17 maximum) showing the following:

1.  The boundaries and dimensions of the subject land
2.  The location, size and type of all existing and proposed buildings and structures on the subject land, indicating the distance of the buildings or structures from the front yard lot line, the rear yard lot line and the side yard lot lines;
3.  The approximate location of all natural and artificial features on the subject land and on land that is adjacent to the subject land that, in the opinion of the applicant, may affect the application, such as buildings, railways, roads, watercourses, drainage ditches, river or stream banks, wetlands, wooded areas, wells and septic tanks;
4.  The current uses on land that is adjacent to the subject land, such as residential agricultural and commercial uses;
5.  The location width and name of any roads within or abutting the subject land, such as residential, agricultural and commercial uses;
6.  If access to the subject land is by water only, the location of the parking and boat docking facilities to be used;
7.  The location and nature of any easement affecting the subject land.

3. If the applicant is not the owner of the subject land, the written authorization of the owner that the applicant is authorized to make the application.

4. The required application fee of $100.00 can be sent by eTransfer. If you are unable to process an eTransfer, payment can be made payable to the Township of Selwyn by cash, cheque or debit.

Please note that applications will not be processed until they are complete.

The cost or preparation of any plans to be submitted with the application is the responsibility of the applicant and similarly the cost of any revisions to the plans are the responsibility of the applicant.

Description of Subject Land:

The required application fee of $100.00 can be sent by eTransfer.

eTransfer instructions:
1. Sign into your online banking and start a new eTransfer
2. Enter the email address finance@selwyntownship.ca (auto deposit is enabled so no password is required)
3. In the message field, include your property address and the words “Fence variance”. Example: “1310 Centre Line Fence Variance”
Note: payments submitted without a description cannot be applied and the application will remain incomplete. 

eTransfer fees and limits are determined by the sender’s financial institution, not the Township.

If you are unable to process an eTransfer, payment can be made payable to the Township of Selwyn by cash, cheque or debit at 1310 Centre Line, Selwyn ON K9J 6X5
